ASBUKENT carries out education, research and publication activities in the field of city, environment and local governments. With the participation of different faculties in ASBU, the goal is to build an interdisciplinary education and research culture in these fields. Regarding the roles and responsibilities of local and central authorities in terms of governing the city and environment, knowledge transfer with these public institutions seems crucial. Thus, communication and cooperation networks are being developed with the relevant institutions.

In terms of education goals, our research center aims to offer more graduate courses such as urban policy, urban management, urban history, local and regional development, local governments, environmental policy and management in both undergraduate and graduate level; and to increase the number of graduate programs in the field of city, environment and local government in ASBU. Our research center promotes publishing researches, articles and books in the field of city, disaster, environment and local governments so that it could provide academic contribution to the field. The academic activities of ASBUKENT enable itself to become a center of attraction for researchers both from home and abroad.

The activities of ASBUKENT also provide public and social benefits. The research and education programs enable the citizens especially those in Ankara to develop social awareness in the field of urban governance, environmental issues and disaster resilience. As such, the citizens could participate more effectively in city governance.
